Surprisingly, a little air show is not what we attended. The Rockford AirFest was HUGE, much cooler than we had anticipated and super fun. There were not only live demonstrations (plane riders, Army jumpers, 2 and 3 plane teams, tons of military planes and the thunderbirds, to name a few...) but the whole tarmack was filled with food tents, kid areas and airplanes! and helicopters! Perfect for Eddie, but also perfect for some much needed shade!
So under the tail of a UPS plane, we watched the show.
And we all 'ooohhh'd and aaaahhhh'd' and thought 'holy crap that's cool' about the Harrier Jet, easily the most awe-inspiring plane there. Why? Well, let's see if these crappy cell phone pictures can do it justice (not even close...)
The Harrier Jet STOPS when it over shoots it's landing. The Harrier jet BACKS UP to get back to it's landing. The Harrier Jet then TURNS IN A CIRCLE to show you all of it's amazing, cool as hell skills. How can it do this? Thrusters or something that allow it to take off and land completely vertically. And let me tell you - when this thing stops and turns to look at you...there is only one thought...
As a civilian...whoa. When you think about the fact that they use that in combat, you imagine this plane getting shot at, and although I'm not sure this is how it goes, it's how I imagine it...
bad guy: (shoots at bad ass jet)
bad ass jet: (stops) (backs up)
bad guy: oh shit.
bad ass jet: (turns to look at bad guy)
bad guy: oh shit.
Heh. Am I the only one that thinks that is the coolest (and loudest!) thing ever? It was so amazing to see.
After some sitting and some food, we walked.
{Eddie says "ugh. it's hot."}
{my favorite plane there...the Dream Lifter! Boeing built this to transport the parts needed for the Boeing Dream Liner...it is soo huge and neat to see, and I loved it. I'm weird.}
Eddie found the whole thing so exciting.
Heh.
