I know, I know...I should be packing. But I do have a good reason for blogging. I wanted to share with all of you the wonder that is my practice cake for Eddie's 1st Birthday. Instead of just making it for no good reason, I decided to make a 4th of July cake for the party we are going to. Thankfully, I have a good sense of humor and should be able to take the pointing and laughing. Now...let me explain. I'm sure any sane person would do a SMALL practice cake. Oh no - not me. I'm actually doing cupcakes for Eddie's birthday and just wanted to practice with the fondant, but instead of doing that, I decide to make a half assed 4 tiered cake. Frosted, with fondant decorations. Um....right. Does anyone know how hard it is to ice a cake and make it look decent? Especially when you are also trying to teach a 10 month old that no, the bottom drawer of the stove is NOT a play area, and no, you may not splash in the dog bowl like it is a pool. Ace of Cakes never had to deal with this shit.
So, needless to say I ended up rolling out some of the white fondant and covering the crap frosting. BWAHAHAHAHA. Covering cake in fondant is NOT as easy as it looks on TV. Like I said, maybe if it was a small cake....but no, I had to cover the 4 tier half ass monster of cake which makes it look like the cake blob.....that the 4 of July threw up ALL OVER.
Are you ready? Sure??? Are you really, really sure????Alright....you asked for it.

I'll give you a minute to process what you're looking at.
Stop laughing.
Seriously.
Now, you may be asking your self why the stars are all in that one corner? DUH! I had to cover the fondant creases and giant hole because I didn't have enough to cover the cake. So I stretched it. Really, really thin. Which is apparently a bad thing. Who knew? Oh, and the group of little stars in the right hand corner? Same deal. What you can't see is the 2 spots in the back that also have awkwardly large clusters of stars. Subtle, no?
I will say that I am proud of the stars on top (red, white and blue fondant that was mixed together) and the little swirls that I made out of fondant. Hey, at least it isn't all a bust, right?
You can start laughing again. Please, only point when I walk away, though.....okay?
