First let me say that I am re-designing the blog header, so you'll see some changes soon. I think I have changed it about 5 times today, so I'm taking a break from that to let everything sink in a bit.
As promised, I wanted to review the Se.same Str.eet Live production of "When E.lmo Gro.ws Up". It is an adorable live show about all of the things you can be when you grow up, El.mo's confusion of what he wants to be and the underlying message that you can be whatever you want to be, if you just believe in yourself. Now, let me start by saying that Stefanie and I went to the Rosemont Theatre without any tickets and drove separately, mysteriously being 2 cars apart about 2 blocks from the theater and parking next to each other. Can you believe that? We live in totally different areas, took two totally different ways to get there and still ended up next to each other. Do you know what we call that, people? That's called Mr. Sobczewski looking out for Stefanie....she says he knows how inconvenient the "little things" can be - which is also why he cleared the way for us to get out of the Britney Spears concert easily, but that's another story. So we walk up to the box office, and just for kicks we ask for the best seats available. What do we get? 5th row, center! Hahahaha....now, if you know anything about mine and Stefanie's concert history, you'd know that we are a little obsessive about seats, so we snatched these up right away. Kind of sad, when you think about it, but whatever!
Eddie proceeded to watch the show with a look of awe on his face while Stefanie and I danced and sang our little hearts out. We laughed, we cried, we sang and we had fun! (Well....maybe not the crying, but Big Bird's epiphany at the end was a little touching.) The look of awe continued until someone special came out. Can you guess who?
That's right, folks - COOKIE MONSTER! Frank was so proud. Anyway...Cookie Monster came on for his song (he wanted to be a firefighter, hence the hat) and Eddie lit up - he was dancing, smiling and clapping for Cookie. Oh my gosh, it was the cutest thing I have ever seen. I took a short movie to show Frank, but it is so wobbly and blurry that if I posted it here I would be a little scared of people vomiting on their computers, and I just can't be responsible for more computer damage.
So Cookie left and the look of awe continued. He's a Cookie Monster fan, people. And I can't be more proud of my son. No wimpy Elmo for my boy! Either way, the show was adorable. There were children of all ages from 6 months to 6 years, I'd say. Surprisingly enough, all children acted well (except for the kid who ran on stage and had to be carried off by a character, but honestly, that was totally the parent's fault) and the parents weren't so bad either (except for the man who was VERY excited during the Spanish portion and kept yelling out random Spanish words like "Abuelo!" to which Stefanie yelled back "Tequila!". That's right folks. We went there.)
Needless to say, I will definitely be heading back to any Ses.ame Street shows. It was so cute and I can't wait to see more of Eddie's reactions. Since we don't have him watch TV at home, it was cute to see what he thought of the characters and to see who Stefanie and I remembered.
The moral of the story? Cookie still rocks.
{The whole cast}
{Eddie's "WHOA" face}
{I hate this picture because I'm making a horribly stupid face. I love it because any time Stefanie would laugh at something on stage Eddie would turn and stare at her just like this}
