This weekend Frankie and I were lucky enough to be able to head to the WONDERFUL Hotel Arista in Naperville to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The decor throughout the entire place was something out of a magazine- even Frank said that he would love to have a living room similar to their lobby/lounge area. If you are in the area and need a quick getaway - the Hotel Arista is the way to go. Not only was the hotel seriously gorgeous, but the restaurant in house, Sugar Toad, was wonderful as well. Sugar Toad supports local farmers and suppliers, so the food was simple, natural and delicious. I had a delicious pear and rosemary martini that was all made by hand (no pre-mixed sour here!) and pre-tested by the bartender to make sure the flavor was right (she tweaked it and then passed it over...it was perfect!!!). We also got complimentary champagne when we got our table, since they knew it was our anniversary. Way to win us over!! Their 'finally famous' crab cake was seriously to die for. And while the entree's took a little longer than we would have liked, a nice quiet dinner with the hubs is nothing to complain about. There is nothing comprable to it in the area....I really hope that the hotel continues to thrive even in a tough environment. Alright, I know you just want pictures, so here goes.....
Really, really....if you need a getaway, go to the Arista! If anything, just for the make your own expresso machine, the best hotel pillows you've ever slept on, beautiful decor and food that is to die for!
What was Eddie doing while we were being adults, you ask? Why, being spoiled rotten at Nanna and Grandpa's of course!! Thankfully, he did great and didn't even mind us leaving...he even blew kisses and waved bye while I was struggling not to cry. Way to hurt Momma's feelings, bud! My coming home dream did come true, though, when he came running down the hall to us shouting 'Momma! Momma!!!'.....and well, we can just edit out the part when the dogs knocked him over, which resulted in a pout on the floor, which then resulted in trying to go around said dogs to get to mom and dad, which resulted in a head bonk on the wall, which resulted in a full meltdown. YUP! We'll just edit that out and do a nice slow motion on the running to us with a huge smile....mkay? Thanks!
Even with all of Eddie's very busy spoiling on Saturday/Sunday, we still had to do some cute family thing, so we decided to check out Dekalb's KiteFest on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately for the kite people, the wind wasn't really cooperating, so the kites were only up for a couple of minutes (or even seconds) at a time. Eddie had fun looking at all of them and pointing them out to us while he munched away on his puffs. I am really looking forward to next year, because some of these kites really were amazing and they just couldn't get them off the ground. One even had a front load construction truck thing as its anchor because it was so big. Crazy!
(lol - Eddie was munching away on his puffs...the only way to get him to sit still!)
(huge kite right above our heads....kinda scary!)
(bad pic, but Eddie was cracking up at Frank and it was just adorable. He thinks his daddy is the funniest person ever!)
(the big guy - bigger than 2 of our houses!)
Whew! Busy weekend. I really am feeling the fact that we stayed out until 2am, and unfortunately Eddie is still feeling the pain of his top tooth trying to cut. In all honesty, this kid has to be the slowest teether ever. It takes at least a week from the time we start to see the tooth cut to when it will actually make it's way to the surface, and then another couple of weeks for the tooth to even be out enough that you can see it without digging around. Poor baby! I feel so bad for him...today he had been walking around and will randomly put his hand to his mouth and cry (which at one point I thought was him trying to do the sign for 'eat', but it isn't. He did the 'real' sign for eat this evening, so that is good!). Hopefully this tooth will decide to stop being a pain in the ass gums and just break already. Wish him luck!
