We didn't push it.....we did a drive by just to give him a peek and then went to eat some more. While we ate, Santa would peek into the room, wave, say hello quickly and make his way back to the chair. I thought this set up was perfect. Eddie would get used to Santa, Santa would get used to Eddie, we would all be happy. Or not.
Obviously, if you saw my last post, you know what happened. In case you didn't get the picture that Eddie didn't like Santa then, well.......
{eddie says 'why???? why are doing this to meeeee?'}
{the dancing elf didn't help much either. he did not think they were funny in the least!}
So then we went for the family picture with Santa. It worked well, I even gave Santa a hug to show Eddie that Santa was a pretty cool dude. I mean, he even said Santa earlier in the day! We love Santa!!! Too bad even my hubby is standing far from Santa. Way to be an example, hon! Eddie would not even let me hold him next to Santa, especially after he busted out a hefty HOHOHO.
Let me tell you, I have never seen my son jump so high. WTF Santa? Really? REALLY?? No ho-ing! No talking! We're trying to avoid life-long phobias here!
{so then we kicked him out. much better!}
I figure the Santa-fear is normal in kids Eddie's age. No biggie, we'll try again next year, even though he'll probably be scary then, too. I think the phobia continues until kids are old enough to buy into the Santa=gifts thing, so we'll just wait it out like any other family. But then we got back to my parents house.
Earlier that day my mom dug out some Christmas Mikey and Minnie decorations from when I was a kid. Eddie LOVES Mikey, so I figured he'd love them. We were showing them to Eddie while they were on the fireplace mantle. The small mantle. For the big figures. Needless to say, they fell. Eddie was terrified. I thought that maybe once we got back home he would love them again.
Want to guess what happened?
{Not so sure about Minnie}
{mom? mom!!}
{there's something behind you!!! turn around!!! aaaahhhh!!!!}
{cue creepy music}
{it's scary falling Mikey! and he's dressed like....like....SANTA!!!!!}
{eddie runs out of the room}
{no...really. he did}
Moral of the story? If you don't want a crazy bow decorated superyard around your Christmas tree, find a cute figurine that your child is afraid of and put it next to the tree. I assure you that your toddler will not want to go anywhere near the tree!
Santa-phobia? Running strong around our house! How about yours?
