Ice Art....toddler style

I recently read an article in a parenting magazine that had some cute artsy craft ideas. One was making ice ornaments, coloring them with some food dye and hanging them outside with some string or ribbon or whatever. Since Eddie loves looking out of our front windows, I figured he would love having some of these to look at. The magazine had just one, but I figured a bunch would be kinda cool....

Ha! Kinda fun, right? I just used some tupperware, various Eddie toys to make the holes (those plastic shape sorter shapes are perfect!), sprinkles and watered down frosting to make the colors and threw them in the garage overnight to freeze. They did crack while I was trying to get some of the shapes out, so I just threw in some more water and back into the garage they went to re-freeze. Pretty fool proof! If you're going to try, I would say do it in the morning and then take the shapes out once the ice block in set, but not totally rock-hard frozen. I also didn't totally have my plan thought out, so I used a bracelet to hold the random bits of ribbon that I had around the house. And because I needed to re-freeze some of the shapes, I kind of just added as I went so the hanging look isn't really as flowy as I wanted, but whatever. Eddie seems to enjoy his new scenery!

Hey, the single digit temperatures are good for something out there!

  1. Hey, I found your blog after reading one of your comments on When Hello Means Good-Bye. I read a couple posts of yours and was surprised that you didn't have comments under some of them. I think you have a really cute blog, so I added you to my list that I follow.
I liked your ice craft. It's very cold here too, but I would be worried that the food colouring would drip onto the front porch when it starts to warm up a bit. My husband wouldn't be too happy about that. lol

  2. Hi Celine! Thanks for commenting! I rarely get comments and love it when I get a couple. I hope you stick around :)

And as for the dripping - it has started! I'm hoping that since it is food coloring it will eventually fade. At least that is what I'm telling Hubby - lol!
