This weekend Eddie had a nice sleepover at Nanna and Grandpa's house, which gave Hubby and I some much needed date time. We went to dinner with some friends Saturday night and then enjoyed a nice, peaceful night of sleep. It was wonderful, but we really missed Eddie. There is something so strange about having a baby-less house.
Anywho....after we went to a nice late breakfast Sunday morning, we took a quick trip over to Prairie State Winery in Genoa. Hubby goes there (often) to pick up some wine for me, but since I have never been there myself I really wanted to check it out. I am so, so happy we went!
First of all, the place is ADORABLE. It was the perfect mix of wine, other local products and cute little decor items.
They also have a tasting room in the back, where they have different tasting events and also private functions. Let me tell you, it is perfection. Wine barrel tables, stucco walls, wall sconces...there were even some full barrels that had wine aging in them.
So cute, right? I was so happy. I hate to say it, but many small places can sometimes half ass things. Prairie State is not one of those places. Heck, the awards on the wall behind the tasting bar speak for themselves!
Oh, the tasting bar. It is now my happy place. It was also where we had the opportunity to talk to Rick, who owns Prairie State with his wife. Rick was awesome - he was super friendly, helped my figure out wine (which I know nothing about, past I like this and not that...), told us the story about how they got started and a whole bunch more, including their wind turbine. Isn't that awesome? They have a wind turbine behind the store! Rick even opened up the back door so we could see it. We also got on the subject of growth and outside sales, which was when he mentioned that Prairie State Wine is being sold at Binny's and Whole Foods.
Seriously, yum. Yummy, yum, yum. If you're around, go check them out. If you can't come to them, run to some where close to you that sells them. You can find a whole list right here. If all of that fails, come on over to our house. We've got more than enough to keep you happy. Plus that means that I get to go back to their cute little store front!
Oh, and one last thing to ensure your love for Prairie State Winery. Their mission statement is awesome....
"Be good stewards of the land, the grape, the community and the consumer."
